Deadline day rules: For Scottish Football League clubs, the deadline is midnight on 31 January. The transfer window does not apply to clubs who play their football below the Blue Square Bet Premier level. When the transfer window shuts, a club may still sign players on an emergency basis - for example, if they have no goalkeepers available - but only if they obtain special dispensation from their competition's governing body, such as the Premier League.
Players out of contract and without a club can be signed at any time if they were unattached free agents when the previous window closed.

BREAKING NEWS: Gunmen Invade Birnin Gwari Township In Kaduna State

BOMBS POLICE STATION AND BANKS

SaharaReporters has just received information from students living in Birnin Gwari town in Kaduna State to the effect that heavily armed bandits took over the Police Station in the area and burnt it down after about two hours of gun battle with troops.

The police station was completely razed in an attack that started at midnight, according to the source.
Banks and other public buildings were reportedly bombed along with the Police Station.
The source who claimed to have witnessed the attack said the bandits also planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) that exploded simultaneously in addition to sporadic gun shots.
The source also said that the whole area was sealed by the unidentified gunmen whose number could not be ascertained because of they came in the dark. Several police officers and some of the bandits are believed to have died in the attack which lasted about two hours.
“We are trapped, and under fear, we need military support to, if not there is no certainty on our lives. As I speak, they are still firing”, he said.
In October, 2012, bandits invaded the town killing some 20 worshippers leaving a Mosque in an early morning raid in the area.
Calls made to spokespersons of the army and police were not returned as at the time of this report.
UPDATE: We have learnt that Governor Muktar Yero of Kaduna State has rushed this morning to Birnin Gwari town, the scene of yesterday’s brazen, five-hour operation by a group of armed bandits.
“The governor is still in town now,” a security source said.
Another source disclosed that the additional police contingent was not able to enter the town until the early hours of today. “The armed bandits operated for four, even five hours without any serious police challenge,” said the source.
News of the attacks was first received from students living in the town of Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State's Birnin Gwari local government area.
The attackers completely razed the police station in the attack that started at midnight, according to the source.

ECO Bank, Unity Bank, and First Bank branches in the town as well as other public buildings were also attacked and bombed along with the police station, according to one elderly witness. The source said the attackers appeared to use explosives in breaking into the banks.

The source said the bandits were part of a group of armed robbers believed to be hiding out in a nearby forest. He disclosed that, prior to yesterday’s attacks, the bandits had launched assaults in several villages and districts including Kuyelo and Randagi on Friday and Tuesday respectively.

The source also stated that the unidentified gunmen had sealed off the whole township last night before launching their attacks. A security source said that the Divisional Police Office (DPO) was out of the area at the time of the attacks last night. We have also learnt that soldiers who are part of “Operation Zaki” refused to move into the area at night to combat the attackers. The commanders of the soldiers were reportedly afraid of being ambushed at night by the armed bandits.
Last night’s attacks were not the first in the town’s recent history. In October, 2012, armed bandits invaded the town and killed some 20 worshippers leaving a mosque.

PREVIEW: Nigeria Vs. Ethiopia

Africa Cup of Nations

  • Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg
  • Date: Tuesday 29 January
  • Kick-off: 6:00 WAT
Coverage: Live text commentary on the BBC Sport website, TV coverage on Eurosport and ITV

Nigeria go into their final group game chasing their first win, while Ethiopia are bottom of the pile with a point.
The Super Eagles stand in second place in Group C with two points, having conceded late equalisers to Burkina Faso and Zambia. Nigerian captain Joseph Yobo and Chelsea midfielder Victor Moses face late fitness tests.

Ethiopia may be without striker Adane Girma, who scored their only goal of the finals, and Asrat Mergasa.
Girma has a leg injury after coming off in the Ethiopians' defeat to Burkina Faso and Mergasa has a knee injury.

Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw:
"Before the match I will tell my players to play football and to gain experience out of a huge team like Nigeria.
"We are here to play football and everybody is surprised by our football.
"Our mission is to show the rest of the world that we can play football. That is the message to my players."

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi:
"I am standing by my players, especially John Obi Mikel after his penalty miss against Zambia.
"We have all to play for against Ethiopia and my wish is that we build a commanding lead and hold it."

Rustenburg will be the venue for the Super Eagles’ final Group C match—a contest which will decide the immediate future of the nation’s football. How will the nation remember the 2013 Cup of Nations? Will this be the year of what-ifs and might-have-beens? The year when the side conceded late equalisers against Burkina Faso and Zambia, throwing away four points in the process.
Or, will it be the year when the side overcame some perceived injustices to qualify from a tricky group and make an emphatic return to the continent’s high table? The future is still in the hands of the Super Eagles, for whom the permutations are numerous.

All Stephen Keshi will be telling his boys is that a win against Ethiopia will guarantee their place in the quarter-finals. The Black Lions may well be in disarray after their demolition at the hands of Burkina Faso, and shorn of the confidence that characterised their opening battle with Zambia, the Big Boss may well identify the Walya Antelopes as ripe for the taking.

After impressing in the first two fixtures, the duo of Emmanuel Emenike and Ahmed Musa will likely be the key attacking options for Nigeria. Despite his nervous penalty miss, John Obi Mikel’s improvement throughout the Zambia match will not have gone unnoticed—indeed, it was his pass which led to Emenike’s opening goal against Chipolopolo.

Defensive resiliency has been the issue for Naija in the first two games, and Keshi might be tempted to recall skipper Joseph Yobo, who sat out of the second fixture against Zambia.

 DID YOU KNOW?
  • Ethiopia, ranked 110th in the Fifa world rankings, are the lowest ranked team in the competition.

  • The east Africans return to the competition after a 31-year absence, but are yet to register a victory this year.
  • Nigeria skipper Joseph Yobo was set to win his 90th cap against Zambia, but after not making it onto the pitch, that land mark could be sealed against Ethiopia.
  • In contrast, Kenneth Omeruo, who replaced the Fenerbache man is relative newcomer to the side – the 19-year-old is currently playing for ADO Den Haag on loan from Chelsea.
